UrbanFootprint incorporates a comprehensive ”sketch” travel model that interacts with regional travel network data to produce estimates of vehicle miles traveled (VMT) for land use + transportation scenarios. In turn, the VMT estimates are used to calculate transportation-related costs, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and pollutant emissions. The core of UrbanFootprint’s travel engine was adapted from the Mixed-Use Trip Generation (MXD) model developed by Fehr & Peers for the US EPA.

Chart Summary

The chart summary for Transportation analytics include:

  • Total Annual VMT - Annual passenger vehicle miles traveled (VMT).
  • Per Capita and Per Household VMT - Average annual per capita and per household passenger vehicle miles traveled (VMT).
  • Travel Mode Share - Travel mode share (%) by walk, drive, transit.
  • Per Capita VMT by LDC - Average annual per capita home-based passenger vehicle miles traveled by land development category (LDC).
  • Per Household VMT by LDC - Average annual per household home-based passenger vehicle miles traveled by land development category (LDC)

Note: If you hover the mouse onto the horizontal chart, it displays the base value of the VMT.
