UrbanFootprint's map tools include different ways to interactively explore the map and select the parcel or block geometeries from the active layer. 

The Hand Tool

Box Selection Tool

The Box Selection tool is used to select map features that intersect with the drawn box. To use the Box Selection tool:

  1. Select the Box Selection tool from the Map Tools bar.
  2. Draw a box around the area that you want to select map features from.

Polygon Selection Tool

The Polygon Selection tool is used to select map features that spatially intersect with the drawn polygon.  To use the Polygon Selection tool:

  1. Select the Polygon Select tool from the Map Tools bar.
  2. Draw a polygon around the area that you want to select map features from.

Using the Polygon Selection Tool

Using the Polygon Selection Tool:

  • After selecting the Polygon Selection tool, the first mouse click will place the first point of the polygon on the map.
  • The second and subsequent mouse clicks will place additional points of the polygon on the map.
  • To complete the polygon, return the polygon to the original point and click once. 

Point Selection Tool

The Point Selection tool is used to select individual map features. To use the Point Selection tool:

  1. Select the Point Selection tool from the Map Tools bar.
  2. Select the desired map feature by clicking on it
  3. To select multiple map features, hold the SHIFT key while clicking on the map.

Inspection Tool

The Inspection Tool is used to inspect an single parcel or census block's data in a separate window. To use the Inspection tool:

  1. Select the Inspection Tool from the Map Tools Bar
  2. Select a parcel inside of your project area.
  3. A small dialog box will appear in your Urban Footprint Map Pane, you can scroll inside of this box to quickly view parcel information.

Clear Selection Tool

The Clear Selection tool is used to deselect any previously selected map features.  To use the Clear Selection tool:

  1. Select the Clear Selection tool from the Map Tools bar.
  2. All previously selected map features will be deselected.
